Who can take swim lessons with Harvard Recreation?
- Anyone eligible to purchase a Harvard Recreation Membership can take swim lessons. This includes students, faculty/staff, affiliates, alumni, and some community members.
- Once you have scheduled swim lessons with an instructor, you will need to have an active membership.
How do I sign up for swim lessons?
What age groups are served?
- Our program is offered to those age 6 and up! Our pools at a competition temperature of around 79-81°F and the American Red Cross suggests the temperature for swim lessons be at least 89.6°F for those under age 6, in order to prevent hypothermia.
How do I pay for swim lessons?
- Once an instructor contacts you, they will discuss your goals, and determine the best type of lesson for you.
- After coordinating with your instructor, decide which package is right for you, then pay online via a link given to you by your instructor.
Can I specify an instructor?
- If we have an instructor on staff that you know you would like to work with, please put their name in the final box on the inquiry form regarding availability.
What facilities will be available?
- Blodgett and MAC Pools will be used for swim lessons. Depending on staff and availability, the pool hours may fluctuate. Lessons will be held during the recreational pool hours. Stay up-to-date on our facility hours here.
What is the temperature of your pool?
- We keep our pools at a competition temperature of around 79-81°F. The American Red Cross suggests the temperature for swim lessons be at least 89.6°F for those under age 6 and 84.2°F for those aged 15 and older, in order to prevent hypothermia. Before signing up for swim lessons, especially youth lessons, it is recommended that you come in and test the water at our facilities during recreational swim hours.
