Harvard Recreation: Drop-In Sports & Flexible Recreation

Harvard Recreation is introducing a new gym usage system that brings structure and flexibility to your experience. Whether you're looking to engage in organized sports or prefer the freedom of open recreation, our new Drop-In Sports and Flexible Recreation (Flex Rec) programs ensure fair access, clear scheduling, and a better gym environment for everyone.

 

What to Expect

All Harvard Recreation members and authorized guests have access to both Drop-In Sports and Flex Rec. Courts and equipment will be set up by staff during Drop-In Sports hours, and gym usage policies will be enforced to ensure a respectful, safe, and fair environment for all users. Whether you’re looking for structured play or a flexible workout space, this new system is designed to improve your experience. We look forward to seeing you at the gym.

The two-week gym floor schedule will provide the latest updates on availability.

Why These Changes?

These updates improve accessibility, flexibility, and fair play. Designated times help avoid scheduling conflicts, ensure that equipment is available when needed, and create a more inclusive gym environment. By introducing Badminton as a new Drop-In Sport, we’re also responding to user demand for expanded recreational opportunities.

What is Drop-In Sports?

Drop-In Sports are scheduled sessions that provide designated times for structured play. During these hours, specific sports are available, and courts are set up upon request.

What is Flex Rec?

Flex Rec is designated open gym time for unstructured recreational activity. This period allows for a variety of informal activities without scheduled court setups.

Drop In Sports Information

Drop-In Sports provide scheduled sessions for specific sports, ensuring dedicated court space and proper equipment. Spaces are prepared by staff, and courts are only available for play during designated hours. This spring, we are officially offering Badminton, Pickleball, and Volleyball as part of Drop-In Sports.

Badminton Court 3 @ MAC

  • Mondays 9:00am-1:00pm
  • Tuesdays 7:30am-1:00pm
  • Wednesdays 6:45am-1:00pm
  • Thursdays 6:45am-1:00pm
  • Fridays 6:45am-4:30pm 
  • Saturdays 9:30am-4:30pm

 

Badminton @ QRAC

  • Mondays 2:00pm-4:00pm
  • Wednesdays 8:30pm - 1:00pm
  • Sundays 3:00pm-5:00pm

 

Pickleball @ QRAC

  • Tuesdays 9:00am-12:00pm
  • Thursdays 12:00pm-4:00pm
  • Sundays 5:00pm-7:00pm

 

Pickleball Court 1 @ MAC

  • Wednesdays 7:30am-12:00pm
  • Fridays 1:00pm-5:00pm
     

Volleyball Court 1 @ MAC

  • Mondays 11:00-1:00pm

Drop-In Sports schedules are posted online and at facility entrances as part of the two-week gym floor schedule.

Flex Rec Information

Flex Rec is open gym time for unstructured activities, allowing users to move freely without scheduled play. Whether you’re stretching, doing light cardio, or engaging in casual movement, Flex Rec provides an adaptable space for general recreation. Drop-In Sports are not permitted during Flex Rec hours to keep the gym open for a wider range of activities.
