Membership Information

Annual memberships and add on services will now go on sale May 23rd, 2025! Please come to the membership office inside the Malkin Athletic Center to purchase or renew your family membership or visit our Membership Portal to get your single Annual membership online! Please note that all Annual memberships purchased will activate on May 31st, 2025. Membership office hours are posted online here.

If you are interested in taking our in person/virtual classes (Class Access), climbing wall, or other activities, please refer to our Add on Services tab for more details. You need a general membership in order to part take in the activities mentioned.
If you want to play tennis/squash at Murr and tennis at Beren, please take a look at our Racquet Sports Membership information under membership information tab. The general membership does not cover Racquet Sports Membership and you will need to pay an additional fee.

All full-time undergraduate students receive the following each fall and spring semester:

*Murr tennis courts fees are also waived

Faculty/Staff Memberships

Affiliate Memberships

Faculty/Staff members are eligible to purchase a membership provided they are full-time, benefits eligible through Harvard University.
Long-Term Faculty/Staff members are eligible for a free single annual recreational membership as well as free towel service if they have completed 15 years of full time service at Harvard. After reaching 15 years, the free membership will go into effect at the start of the next academic year.

Faculty/Staff affiliates are eligible to purchase a membership.
To check whether you are eligible for a membership as an affiliate, please click the purchase membership button below and login with your HarvardKey. Eligible members will then see all available options for memberships.

Alumni Memberships

Alumnus are eligible to purchase a membership.
We ask that all alumni memberships are done in-person at the Membership Office in the Malkin Athletic Center.
Alumni may use the facilities for a charge of up to $15 per day, depending on the facility. Alumni do not need to be accompanied by a member, but they must show proof of alumni status. Proof can be a print-out of their directory listing and a photo ID, or an expired Harvard ID. Directory listings can be obtained at www.alumni.harvard.edu.

Family Memberships

Eligible family members are as follows:
- A partner/spouse
- Dependents under the age of 26

Parents/guardians, siblings, extended family, and friends are not eligible for a family membership.

Please purchase your family membership in-person at the Membership Office in the Malkin Athletic Center.
You cannot purchase a family membership online or over the phone.
Either the Harvard affiliate or partner/spouse of the Harvard affiliate can stop by the membership office to purchase the family membership.
At the membership office, we will provide the partner/spouse and/or children over the age of 14 a membership ID card.

Community Memberships

Residents of Allston and Brighton are eligible for a membership with Harvard Recreation through the Harvard Ed Portal.
Please visit the Harvard Ed Portal website here to sign up.
Ed Portal membership applications close on March 1st, 2024.They will re-open in early May for the Summer semester.
Ed Portal memberships are semesterly only, and require a sign up every semester to be used.

Day Pass

Guest Pass

Harvard affiliated members that do not have a current membership are able to purchase a day pass for themselves at the front desk of each facility.
Day/Guest Pass lasts from time of purchase to the end of business day. It does not last 24 hours.
A day pass is $15 that would be paid each visit at the front desk.
- This includes alumni and Harvard affiliates.

Harvard members with a current membership are able to bring one guest per visit.
Must be with your guest at all times.
Harvard members must be over the age of 15 to bring a guest into the facilities.
A guest pass is $15 that would be paid each visit at the front desk.
- During the academic year, Undergraduate students can bring one free guest each visit to any Harvard Recreation facility.
- During the academic year, Harvard Law School students can bring one free guest to Hemenway Gym each visit.

Weekly Pass

Harvard affiliated members that do not have a current membership are able to purchase a weekly pass online or at the membership office at the MAC.
A weekly pass is $90 and lasts for 7 days.
To purchase a pass: login to your account by going to membership.gocrimson.com, click on memberships and add-on services, click on Week Long Day Pass.
Non Harvard students/staff/affiliates are not allowed to buy this pass.

If you have been at Harvard University for 15+ consecutive years, your membership is for free.
You must activate the free membership by logging on to membership.gocrimson.com and following through with the purchasing process.
Along with membership, you also have free towel service.
Group exercise classes, PT, Racquet Sports, and Family memberships are not free. Please see Add on Services tab for pricing.
If your account does not work at the front desk, please contact recmemberships@fas.harvard.edu and we will update your account
Memberships are eligible to be refunded no more than 72 hours after purchase. No other refunds will be given unless required by law.
CONSUMER’S RIGHT TO CANCELLATION. YOU MAY CANCEL THIS CONTRACT WITHOUT ANY PENALTY OR FURTHER OBLIGATION BY CAUSING A WRITTEN NOTICE OF YOUR CANCELLATION TO BE DELIVERED IN PERSON OR POSTMARKED BY CERTIFIED OR REGISTERED UNITED STATES MAIL WITHIN THREE (3) BUSINESS DAYS OF THE DATE OF THIS CONTRACT OR THE DATE OF YOUR RECEIPT TO THE ADDRESS SPECIFIED IN THIS CONTRACT.
ADDITIONAL RIGHTS TO CANCELLATION
You or your estate may also cancel this contract for any of the following reasons:
if upon a doctor’s order, you cannot physically or medically receive the services because of significant physical or medical disability for a period in excess of three months;
in case of your death;
if the health club services to be provided under this contract are not available because the seller fails to open a planned health club or location, permanently discontinues operation of a health club or location, or substantially changes the operation of a health club or location.
if you move either your residence or your place of employment more than twenty-five miles from any health club operated by the seller or a substantially similar health club which will accept the seller’s obligation under the contract.
Requests for refunds should be directed to recmemberships@fas.harvard.edu . Please note that in the event of cancellation, Harvard may retain the portion of the total contract price representing the amount of time that the services or facilities were used by the buyer prior to cancellation. Harvard reserves the right to request reasonable evidence supporting the reason for cancellation.
Please Note: Harvard Recreation Membership does not allow access to Shad Hall Gymnasium and vice versa, both memberships will have to be purchased separately.
