During the summer of 2022, Harvard Recreation underwent a tremendous project of upgrading the strength floors in Hemenway Gymnasium.
The goals of this project were not only to upgrade the old equipment, but also to provide an open floor concept to maximize the space. Now, members are able to use the floor space for exercises such as deadlifting, ab work, or HIIT/cardio-based training, something that was hindered in the past especially during peak hours.
Because most of the machines were outdated, overused and bulky, they no longer fit the needs of members. After the upgrade, there are now six new power rack stations for barbell use, five pull up stations and additional cable towers.
The last element of the renovation was a custom built shelving and storage unit to provide more organizational space to keep the floor clutter free. These areas hold smaller pieces of equipment, accessories, and belongings so that no matter what time of day, the space feels clean and organized.
