The Harvard Horntails are your 2024 National Quadball Champions! After falling short by a single goal in the 2023 national championship game, the Harvard Quadball Club Team finally completed the ascent in 2024, becoming only the fifth college to claim the USQ Cup, after Middlebury, Texas, Rochester, and UTSA. Harvard dominated their pool on day one, beating Blue Jay 185-50, Illinois 160-70, and Sam Houston State 185-100. Then in bracket they made quick work of Texas State 215-60 and Missouri 165-70, before squaring off in the finals against UTSA, the same team they had lost to by a single goal in the year prior. But unlike in 2023, Harvard pulled through, winning a nailbiter 160-140.
It was a year of redemption for Harvard, who set out in 2024 looking to improve on their previous season full of second-place trophies. That started at the Northeast Regional Championship, where in the 2022-2023 season, Harvard fell to Rutgers by a convincing score of 205-120. But when the teams faced off in the regional championship game again this season, the game broke Harvard's way, and they won a nailbiter 145-120, clinching their first regional championship in school history.
Harvard continued their season at Blue Jay Cup at Creighton University in Nebraska, where they had a chance to redeem their only loss earlier in the season, which had come by a single goal at home, to hosts Creighton. Once again, this meeting spelled a different fate, as Harvard won by a single goal, clinching the Blue Jay Cup.
Finally, Harvard got redemption for the national championship finals loss in 2023, at this year's USQ National Championships in Austin, Texas. They won all six of their games including against defending champions UTSA to secure the championship, out of a pool of 58 teams at the tournament.
While the Harvard Quadball Club Team looks to once again be a competitive force in the 2024-2025 season, four of their six starters are graduating, and so there are plenty of spots for new players to join the team and make an impact. They will be holding an open practice on Mignone Field from 7pm-9pm on Wednesday 4/24 for players who are interested in joining the team next year to learn how to play and scrimmage with the team, and they'd love to see you there!
