Harvard Climbing Wall

The Harvard Climbing Wall is located in the Quadrangle Recreational Athletic Facility (QRAC) at 66 Garden St in Cambridge. It is available for use by any person (of age 14+) with a valid Harvard Recreation membership, including family members of Harvard faculty and staff with the purchase of a climbing wall add on membership, for $25 a semester. Climbing shoe rentals and chalk are provided at no additional cost.

Items/Equipment

  • No food, drinks, or gum in the climbing wall area.
    • Exception: Water in a re-sealable container.
  • Please leave all personal items and bags outside of the climbing wall area.
    • Lockers are provided for day use.

Footwear

  • Only climbing shoes or appropriate soft and clean closed-toe shoes.
  • Climbing shoes are provided at the front desk for no additional cost.
  • Remove climbing shoes before leaving the climbing wall area.
  • Use provided disinfectant spray before returning rental shoes.
  • No bare feet allowed.

Climbing Policies

  • Climbers must follow all policies.
  • Climbers must check in at the climbing wall desk.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and fall zones.
  • Be aware of other climbers and do not stand in their fall zones.
  • Allow other climbers adequate space.
  • DO NOT climb over or under other climbers.
  • Be aware of the course of your route and its start/end.
  • Practice proper falling & landing technique:
    • Land with knees bent and arms in front of you.
    • Climb down as needed and when possible; do not jump or fall.
  • Routes typically end with two hands on top of the wall, unless otherwise marked.
  • DO NOT climb above a route finishing hold.
  • DO NOT top out on the wall.
  • DO NOT use bolts or holds marked with a red "X" for footholds or handholds.
  • If holds spin or bolts are exposed, please notify climbing wall staff.
  • Personal chalk must be kept in a chalk ball or bag.
    • Chalk & liquid chalk is provided at the climbing wall desk.
  • If any injury occurs, notify climbing wall staff IMMEDIATELY.
  • Please report any bleeding or blood on the wall/mats immediately.
