Wintersession

Wintersession, the last week of Winter Recess, is typically a time when students return to campus early to participate in programs that encourage personal reflection, intellectual curiosity, social interaction, and wellness. From January 20th to January 26th, Harvard Athletics & Recreation will be hosting a collection of events in which students can sign-up and participate. Blended Learning Lifeguard Training combines online learning with in-person skills sessions conducted by a Red Cross certified instructor. The blended learning online sessions offer students a variety of elements to learn program content including videos, lesson narration and special interactive features. This allows for individualized, self-paced learning. The online session is completed ahead of the class meeting in person. During the in-person skills sessions, students will practice skills and are assessed by the instructor. All participants must complete a pre-course swim assessment session prior to the course. Pre-course swim assessments are available on 1/12 at 5:30pm, 1/13 at 1:00pm, and 1/17 at 5:30pm. Free for undergraduate students.

The American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED program provides participants with the knowledge and skills they need to recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing, and first aid emergencies. The courses in this program teach participants the knowledge and skills needed to give immediate care to an injured or ill person and to decide whether advanced medical care is needed. This program offers a choice of first aid, CPR, and AED courses to meet the various training needs of a diverse audience. The intended audience for the courses in this program includes lay responders in the workplace and community.

Cat and Dog First Aid Online You love your pets and want to give them the best life possible; being equipped to deliver first aid and provide a healthy lifestyle for your pet is the best way to do that. In this course, you will learn the basics of providing first aid care for your cat or dog and will learn how to best give care for common emergency situations. This 35-minute online course covers understanding your pet's vital signs, breathing and cardiac emergencies, wounds and bleeding, seizures, and preventative care for cats and dogs. This course is desktop and tablet compatible.

Until Help Arrives The Until Help Arrives online course provides the general public with the basic cognitive information on key actions that can be taken during a life-threatening emergency that can help sustain or save a life until EMS arrives including: Compression Only CPR (no breaths) AED Education Choking Education Bleeding (administering direct pressure and tourniquet) and Opioid Overdose (administering naloxone). The Until Help Arrives online course developed by the American Red Cross and American College of Emergency Physicians equips students with the basic knowledge to assist trained responders during a life-threatening emergency. This course is taught online only (accessed via mobile desktop or tablet) and does not meet OSHA requirements for workplace certification. If seeking a 2-year Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED digital certificate that is OSHA compliant and meets other workplace and regulatory requirements we recommend enrolling in either an Instructor-led Training or Blended Learning course.

Adult, Child and Baby First Aid/CPR/AED Online Adult, Child and Baby First Aid/CPR/AED Online course equips students to recognize and care for a variety of first aid, breathing, and cardiac emergencies involving adults, children and babies. This course is taught online only (accessed via mobile, desktop or tablet) and does not meet OSHA requirements for workplace certification. To receive a valid 2-year Red Cross digital certificate that is OSHA compliant and meets other workplace and regulatory requirements, you must enroll in a course with an Instructor-led skill session.
