Recreational Sailing          Sailing Center Hours Facilities Overview Page

The Harvard Sailing Center is located on a barge in the Charles River Basin. The barge supports a two story structure. Half the sailing center contains changing rooms, rest rooms, and a boat repair shop while the other half houses the boats.

The boats are stored using our "unique" hanging system (unique doesn't begin to describe the operation). We haul boats out on racks using a crane. They are hung vertically and moved via a ceiling-mounted monorail. Despite its complexity, this system has functioned well for over thirty years.

There is one main string of floats used to tie up the boats once they are in the water as well as for boat rotation during regattas. Another string of floats is used to store our eight FJs and two 420s (since we cannot hang these types of boats).
