Overview: Harvard Wushu is dedicated to the practice and performance of contemporary Chinese martial arts. Founded in 2003, the Harvard Wushu Club has grown tremendously and has become one of the top performance and martial arts groups at Harvard. Having performed for celebrities, such as Shakira, Salma Hayek, John Legend, and Dan Aykroyd, sold out audiences at the annual Harvard Cultural Rhythms Festival, art exhibitions, cultural events, and countless student groups, Harvard Wushu combines a unique artistic aesthetic with practical, combative techniques. Harvard Wushu covers a wide spectrum of modern Chinese martial arts, from spear and sword play to open-hand forms and self-defense. A nexus for wushu and martial arts enthusiasts from around New England, the Harvard Wushu Club hosts members from MIT, Wellesley College, Boston University, and Harvard’s graduate schools. The Harvard Wushu Club is also home to the Harvard Wushu Team, an award-winning competition and performance team composed of top athletes from across the country. Led by an experienced coaching staff, the Harvard Wushu Team blends a unique aesthetic and energy with acrobatic movements and practical techniques.
