SWIM SPECIALTY & SCUBA DIVING CLASSES

On-time Registration is until February 4th. Late Registration Begins February 5th.

No Classes March 2nd - 3rd, March 18th - 24th (Spring Break), and April 6th - 7th

 

All swim classes are for ADULTS ONLY (14 years & older)

PLEASE NOTE: purchasing specialty access does not give you facility access. You must have recreation membership to participate in Swim Specialty Courses. Please contact the membership office at (617) 496-1585, or purchase membership online.

Intermediate Swim: All Strokes Workout Section I (75 min class)

This swim class is for swimmers with basic freestyle and deep water comfort.  You will learn backstroke, breast stroke and butterfly in this class.  Drills and swim sets will help refine your new strokes. Deep water comfort required.  Fins are recommended. (Instructor will advise).

CLASSES AT THE MALKIN POOL

Crimson Triathlon (2 hours)

Whether training for triathlon session or just looking for a good workout, this two hour class will help you build speed, endurance and strength for all three elements of your competition!

Come prepared for a mini triathlon “anchor” workout with swimming, cycling, and running. Class will introduce techniques to improve distance freestyle and open water swimming, include progressive cycling and running workouts, cover transition skills and discuss race strategies.

Building Speed and Endurance in Freestyle  (75 min class) 

This fun and challenging workout class is designed to introduce the intermediate-level swimmer to drills and swim sets that will build efficiency, speed and endurance. Flip turns included.  Deep water comfort required.   Fins are recommended (instructor will advise).

Treading Water/Introduction to Freestyle (75 min class)

The principal objective of this class is to help participants pass the Harvard University Swim Test (100 yds) and two minutes of treading water.  Participants will gain confidence in their ability to float and survive in deep water by mastering skills first in shallow water.  Once comfort is achieved, we will start our stroke work with freestyle. Goggles are required, fins are recommended (instructor will advise).

 Flip Turns and Strokes(45 min class)

 Registration now available!

Learn the freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke turns. Use flip turns to build efficient, challenging HIIT workouts. Train for muscular endurance and cardiovascular fitness.

Strokes 101 (45 min class)

Learn the basics of backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Use heart rate training zones to create fun and varied HIIT workouts with all three strokes. Train for muscular endurance and cardiovascular fitness.
