On-time Registration is until February 4th. Late Registration Begins February 5th.

No Classes March 2nd - 3rd, March 18th - 24th (Spring Break), and April 6th - 7th

PLEASE NOTE: purchasing specialty access does not give you facility access. You must have recreation membership to participate in Swim Specialty Courses. Please contact the membership office at (617) 496-1585, or purchase membership online.

Intermediate Swim: All Strokes Workout Section I (75 min class)

This swim class is for swimmers with basic freestyle and deep water comfort.  You will learn backstroke, breast stroke and butterfly in this class.  Drills and swim sets will help refine your new strokes. Deep water comfort required.  Fins are recommended. (Instructor will advise).

CLASSES AT THE MALKIN POOL

Crimson Triathlon (2 hours)

Whether training for triathlon session or just looking for a good workout, this two hour class will help you build speed, endurance and strength for all three elements of your competition!

Come prepared for a mini triathlon “anchor” workout with swimming, cycling, and running. Class will introduce techniques to improve distance freestyle and open water swimming, include progressive cycling and running workouts, cover transition skills and discuss race strategies.

Introduction to Swimming for Beginners(45 min class)

This class is designed to help swimmers obtain the basic swimming skills needed to become more comfortable and confident In the water. We will cover exploration of shallow water, floating, breathing, balance, resistance, kicking and pulling. No Prerequisite

Building Speed and Endurance in Freestyle  (75 min class) CLASS IS FULL!

This fun and challenging workout class is designed to introduce the intermediate-level swimmer to drills and swim sets that will build efficiency, speed and endurance. Flip turns included.  Deep water comfort required.   Fins are recommended (instructor will advise).

Treading Water/Introduction to Freestyle (75 min class)

The principal objective of this class is to help participants pass the Harvard University Swim Test (100 yds) and two minutes of treading water.  Participants will gain confidence in their ability to float and survive in deep water by mastering skills first in shallow water.  Once comfort is achieved, we will start our stroke work with freestyle. Goggles are required, fins are recommended (instructor will advise).

SCUBA DIVING CLASS AT THE MAC 

Classroom and pool portion of SDI Open Water SCUBA certification. Course materials supplied.  Class meets on Wednesday evenings beginning February 13th and runs for 7 weeks at the Malkin Athletic Center.  It will include a 200 yard swim in swim suit only.  On Feb 22nd, you will enjoy your first SCUBA in the pool. All equipment will be supplied for the pool.  Student must have their own mask, fins and snorkels by pool session 3. Direct all questions to Instructor Jim Estabrook at diverjymm@gmail.com or by phone at 617-628-3387.
