Usage Rates at the MAC and Hemenway

Usage Rates for the Malkin Athletic Center and Hemenway Gymnasium

The data in the graphs below are averages derived from historical usage rates. We post regular usage forecasts on Facebook, which will be in any instance that usage rates deviate significantly from their average.

In general, the data on this page reflect periods of the most consistent usage; holidays, exams, and special events will often cause usage rates to rise or fall compared to what is posted here.

MAC

Monday - Thursday (MAC)

See graph below.

During the week, excluding Friday, the MAC is the busiest. We have three rushes: morning, noon, and early evening. The morning rush is composed more of individuals using the weights, cardio machines, and pool, whereas the noon rush has more people coming in for group exercise. The evening rush is a thorough mix of both activities, and is when the MAC is the most used in general.

Friday (MAC)

See graph below.

Friday usage follows the same general pattern as during the rest of the work week, with the morning, noon, and early evening rushes. However, because the MAC closes earlier on Friday, we have more users clustered together toward closing time. The early evening uptick actually begins around 2pm, and only gets busier from there until we reach the closing hour (6pm-7pm).

Saturday (MAC)

See graph below.

Saturday has the lowest usage rate of the week. There are probably several reasons why this is the case, but the fact that it follows Friday night gives us a good idea of a few of them. If you don't make it to the MAC on Saturday, just remember to hydrate! You'll generally find the MAC to be a peaceful place to workout on Saturday.

Sunday (MAC)

See graph below.

After the Saturday recovery period, Sunday's usage picks back up and starts to resemble the the weekday patterns, although it is still not as busy. Sundays are characterized by busy opening hours with a small afternoon peak.
