Shotokan Karate Club

Student-Run Website: www.harvardkarate.com
Overview: The Harvard Shotokan Karate
Club is affiliated with the Japan Karate Association of Boston
under the supervision of Sensei Eiji Toryu (6thdan). HSK
offers all Harvard affiliates the opportunity to train regularly in
traditional Shotokan Karate. Shotokan is derived from Okinawan
martial arts and focuses on three aspects of training: kihon
(basics), kata (forms) and kumite (sparring). Classes are
held three times a week on campus at the Malkin Athletic Center and
the occasional dogo trip to Brookline Dojo. We offer
affiliation with and use of the JKA dojo in Brookline. The
club offers both recreational karate training and a more intense
track for those interested in competitive karate. At the end
of every semester students can test for promotion, and each
semester we participate in two to three
tournaments.
