The Sailing Center is located near the Lower Basin on Memorial Drive and is easily accessible by subway. The Center is located on a barge in the Charles River Basin. Half the sailing center contains changing rooms, rest rooms, and a boat repair shop, while the other half houses the boats. The Center also includes a unique hanging boat storage system that enables solo launchings, a large meeting room, an instruction room, and a fleet maintenance shop.
 
Please call the facility to confirm the sailing center is open on the day you would like to visit.

2010 Semester Membership Fee:
$50.00/semester- Spring
$50.00/month- Summer
$150.00- One year membership

 

 

 

Beginner Sailing Class 

$100 per person (limit 12 people per class)

July 27-30 5:30pm until 8:00pm each day

*sign-ups accepted at the Sailing Center

MUST have valid swim card to sign-up for class
Swim tests can be taken at the Blodgett Pool and the MAC during recreational swim hours.

Orientations for new members to be shown how to rig are held every Wednesday at 5:30pm. During the summer these orientations will also be held on Saturdays at 2:30pm.

 

 

Swim Tests

1. Students, Faculty, Staff and affiliates that wish to sail at any point during their affiliation with Harvard must successfully complete a swimming test.

2. The swimming test consists of 100 yards of any stroke except the backstrokes and must show good forward progress (i.e., swimmers are not allowed to stop, hang on the lane lines or touch the bottom) in order to pass.

3. You must be an officer, student or staff with a Harvard ID or be a Harvard Affiliate with a Harvard Athletic Facility pass to take the Harvard Swim test.

4. Tests will be given during regular hours of operation until 15 minutes prior to closing time. (You must show the lifeguard your Harvard ID, prior to taking the test.)

5. Lost Cards will not be replaced.
