How do I gain recreational access to Blodgett
Pool? In order to gain recreational access to Blodgett
Pool, you must purchase a Harvard Athletic membership. You can
either do this online or in person at the Membership Office in the
Malkin Athletic Center.

membership? The cost of the Harvard Athletic membership
varies depending on your Harvard affiliation. You can find more

Blodgett Pool? With many events held at this great
facility, we want to keep you informed on any upcoming special

Does Blodgett Pool offer Locker and Towel
Service? Locker and Towel service are available at
Blodgett Pool, wallet lockers (located in the pool foyer) and
transient lockers (tall lockers in locker room) are available to
recreational swimmers free of charge (you must bring your own
lock). Overnight lockers can only be purchased in person from Casey
Blodget at the Murr Center Fitness Room desk. Towel Service is also
available to all recreational users at Blodgett Pool, HUID card
holders have the option of purchasing online, all others including
alumni must purchase towel service at the Membership Office in the
Malkin Athletic Center.

Malkin Pool
|
|
The Malkin Pool hosts over 30,000 Recreation users a year. This
beautiful facility features two swimming pools to accommodate all
types of users. Swimming lessons, group swim classes
and scuba classes are available.
SWIM LESSONS
& PROGRAMS- You must have current
membership to participate in swim lessons.
We are now taking requests for Adult Private, Buddy (2 adults)
and semi-private (3-6 adults) lessons. For buddy and
semi-private lessons you must register with a partner. We are
unable to arrange a partner for you. To
request a private or semi-private session please complete the Swim Lesson Request form.
Swim lessons are available on the weekdays, evenings and
weekends.

Are Aqua Aerobics classes offered at the
MAC?
The Aqua Aerobics classes are included on the Group Exercise class
schedule. The MAC small pool is closed to non-class participants
during Aqua Aerobics classes. To view

Does Malkin Pool offer Locker or Towel service?
Locker and Towel service are available at Malkin Athletic Center.
Transient lockers are available to all users of the building free
of charge (you must bring your own lock). Over night lockers can
only be purchased at the Malkin Athletic Center Front Desk. Towel
Service is also available to all recreational users of the Malkin
Athletic Center, HUID card holders have the option of purchasing

Swimming
Tests
1. Students, Faculty, Staff and
affiliates that wish to row or sail at any point during their
affiliation with Harvard must successfully complete a swimming
test.
2. The swimming test consists of 100 yards of any stroke except
the backstrokes and must show good forward progress (i.e., swimmers
are not allowed to stop, hang on the lane lines or touch the
bottom) in order to pass.
3. You must be an officer, student or staff with a Harvard ID or
be a Harvard Affiliate with a Harvard Athletic Facility pass to
take the Harvard Swim test.
4. Tests will be given during regular hours of operation until 15
minutes prior to closing time. (You must show the lifeguard your
Harvard id, prior to taking the test.)
5. Lost Cards will not be replaced.

Policies
The lifeguard and monitor
staffs are here to ensure your safety and enjoyment. Please
familiarize yourself with the pool regulations posted in the lobby
and on signs on the pool deck. Some of the major regulations are
listed below:
1. No carriages or strollers are
permitted on the pool deck. Each child under the age of 7 must be
accompanied and directly supervised by an adult at all times while
in the facility (regardless of whether the child is in or out of
the water). One adult must be present per two children under age 7,
and one adult per four children between ages 7 and 18. For a
complete listing of the rules please refer to the Child Supervision
Policy.
2. Personal flotation devices are NOT
permitted.
3. Kick boards are available on a
first come, first serve basis. Please return them when you are
done.
4. Scuba equipment, including masks
and snorkels, are NOT permitted in the pool. Exceptions will only
be made for those with current medical approval on file with the
Aquatic Director.
5. Diving from starting blocks, diving
boards, and towers is prohibited.
6. Blodgett prohibits swimmers from
using any entrance other than the main doors.
7. Private swimming lessons are
prohibited. Only Harvard Aquatics Staff may give swimming
lessons.
8. Blodgett users are not permitted in
closets or storage areas, or to adjust pace clocks.
9. Swimmers must circle swim when
there are more than two people swimming in a lane (staying to the
right). Tap toes to pass.
10. Special activities may necessitate
the change in or cancellation of recreational swim hours. Please
check weekly schedule with monitors desk at 617-495-1789.
11. The MAC small pool is closed to
non-class participants during Aqua Aerobics classes.
LIFEGUARDS ON DUTY ARE
RESPONSIBLE FOR POOL ACTIVITIES AND HAVE AUTHORITY TO SUSPEND POOL
PRIVILEGES. PARTICIPANTS MUST COMPLY WITH INSTRUCTIONS OF THE
LIFEGUARDS.

Supervision Policy
FOR THE SAFETY OF THE CHILDREN, THE HARVARD ATHLETIC
DEPARTMENT MAINTAINS THE FOLLOWING POLICY
REGARDING THE SUPERVISION OF CHILDREN:
1) No flotation devices of any kind
are allowed for children.
2) Supervising adults must present
their HUID or recreation membership card upon entering the
facility.
3) Affiliates without a family
recreational membership must pay a $15.00 guest fee upon entering
the facility if accompanied by a child.
4) Any adult responsible for children
must accompany and directly supervise their children, regardless of
age, at all times. No more than four children per adult.
5) One adult may supervise no more
than two children under the age of 7. The adult must accompany and
directly supervise the children in the water.
6) No carriages, strollers, or
unsupervised children, regardless of age, are permitted on the pool
deck
7) Babies must be diapered and wearing
rubber pants in addition to their swimsuit.
Lifeguards on duty are responsible for
pool activity and have authority to suspend pool privileges.
Participants must comply with instructions of the lifeguards.
