Century Cycling Challenge Instructions for Participants:
Participating cyclists can back up their data using a flash
drive.
OR
NEW! Bring your smart phone & take a picture of your screen at the end of class. Then show the instructor the picture and track your mileage in the binder.
Upon arrival to class:
1. Check your console battery levels before even setting up
your bike.
Turn on console by pressing light button. Look at 3 battery
readouts at the bottom of the screen. You want at least 2
bars of battery strength on each of the batteries. Any
batteries that read only 1 bar will be likely to fail at some point
during class. Report low batteries to instructor, and choose
a different bike.
2. Adjust your bike settings as usual and prepare to
ride.
3. When you are ready to ride, turn on console again (by
pushing light button), and insert flash drive into USB Port at the
top of the console. You must insert the flash drive within 30
seconds of turning console on. You should notice a small
flashing line at the top of the console screen, just below the USB
Port. This indicates that the flash drive is
connected.
4. Ride as usual, leaving flash drive in the USB
port.
5. At the end of the ride, note your total distance traveled
in bottom right hand corner of console. Instructor should
verify.
6. At the end of the ride, enter “End Workout
Mode” by holding the AVG/END button for 3 seconds, until the
numbers on the screen show “Max” and
“Avg” values. This will record your values on the flash
drive. Note: console will automatically enter
“End Workout Mode” after no pedaling for 5
minutes.
After class:
1. Find your page in the CCC binder on the stage.
Please note that at the beginning of the program you
will need to fill your name in on a blank page in the binder &
then track your mileage on that page after each
ride.
2. Enter the date & time of class and, Record your total
distance traveled in that class, and
have the instructor initial to verify.
3. After class, plug your flash drive into your
computer. Each ride will record as an excel spreadsheet
labeled “Mpower01, MPower02,” etc. Change the
name of the file to be Last Name and date, i.e. Smith4-8-13,
Smith4-10-13 and so on.
4. At the end of each week, please send an email to HarvardCCC@gmail.com and attach
your rides for the preceding week (Monday through Sunday). In the
body of the email, please write your name (because not all emails
indicate the owner’s name) and note the total miles ridden
for that week (as verified by attached excel spreadsheets).
Managers will cross-check excel files with the class binders for
consistency. If you did not use a flash drive you do not have to
send an email since your instructor will verify your mileage.
Troubleshooting:
If your console fails to read one day, do not panic. Please
inform the instructor of the problem, so that we may remedy the
problem with the console. Enter “Error” in the
class binder in place of miles ridden. We will take the
average miles of 3 classes (of the same length) and use that value
in place of the error. The 3 classes averaged will be the 3
which are closest in date to the error class.
