Head and Shoulder Stands
Headstand (Sirsasana) and shoulder stand (Sarvangasana) are known as the king and queen of asana.  Each is significant in developing a full yoga practice.  Sirsasana nourishes the pineal gland within the brain whose function relates to the production of melatonin and regulation of sleep cycles.  Sarvangasana relates to the thyroid, parathyroid, thymus and the pituitary gland.  These asanas affect both metabolism and the immune system.  Learn how to prepare for these poses to minimize and eliminate neck and shoulder discomfort and to prevent injuries that can result from practicing them incorrectly.  We will explore, through related asanas, how to train your body and mind to practice these wonderful poses safely and without fear. If you already practice them, come to refine and enhance your understanding and performance of them.
