MEMBERSHIP AND FACILITY ACCESS POLICIES

  1. The athletic membership is restricted to current Harvard affiliates, “longer-service” Harvard retirees, and Harvard alumni only. Family athletic memberships may be purchased by eligible Harvard students, faculty, and staff for benefits-eligible family members only. Membership costs are determined by each school/department; please contact the Athletic Membership Office to determine your usage fee.
  2. Patrons must present a valid Harvard University ID, HUID number, or athletic membership card at the front desk upon entering a DHA facility. Patrons will not be admitted without a membership card or Harvard ID. Expired cards or cards without a current athletic membership will not be accepted. Members may not loan their card to anyone: misused cards will be confiscated, and may result in loss of privileges. It is the member’s responsibility to make sure that his/her membership is current. Please contact the Athletic Membership Office with any questions. (Kyle.McGinnity@fitcorp.com, 617-496-1585)
  3. All sales are final, no refunds will be issued for athletic memberships or services purchased. If a member leaves Harvard for any reason, memberships and services will expire immediately and the member will not be refunded.

GUEST POLICIES

  1. All guests must be accompanied by a member with a valid Harvard ID or athletic membership card and current athletic membership. Please register all guests at the front desk by completely reading and filling out a guest form and paying the guest fee of up to $15, depending on the facility. Additional fees for other services or classes may apply. All members are limited to one (1) guest per day.
  2. Guests must provide a photo ID to verify the information written on the guest form. The front desk staff will not copy or hold the ID for any reason, but will record that proper ID was presented.
  3. Members must know and accompany their guest at all times in the facility. The member is responsible for their guest for the duration of their visit.
  4. During the academic year ONLY, current Harvard Law School students are allowed one (1) free guest per day at Hemenway Gymnasium.
  5. During the academic year ONLY, current Harvard College students are allowed one (1) free guest per day at all DHA facilities.
  6. Guests who pay a guest fee are entitled to one free shower towel at the MAC and Hemenway. Free guests will not receive a complimentary shower towel.

  8. In order for a paid guest to participate in a group exercise class, they must take the class with the member who signed them in, and pay a $10 drop in fee on top of the $15 guest fee.
  9. Alumni may use the facilities for a charge of up to $15 per day, depending on the facility. Alumni do not need to be accompanied by a member, but they must show proof of alumni status. Proof can be a print-out of their directory listing and a photo ID, or an expired Harvard ID. Directory listings can be obtained at www.alumni.harvard.edu.

  2. Do not remove the free weights from the designated areas.
  3. Do not drop or slam the weights.
  4. Patrons are required to let others alternate between sets when using weight machines.
  5. Patrons are responsible for re-racking and returning weights after use.

  7. Do not place dumbbells or barbells on top of benches. Use plyo-boxes for step or jump exercises (plyometric).
  8. The MAC and Hemenway use sign-up systems for cardio equipment. Before using any cardio room equipment, patrons should familiarize themselves with the sign-up system. Patrons should always sign-up correctly (using the following instructions) before using any cardio equipment to ensure their workout is not interrupted.
  9. Patrons may not reserve a machine for anyone but themselves.
  10. Machines can be reserved up to two (2) hours in advance, no earlier.
  11. Patrons may sign-up for ONE 30 MINUTE time slot ONLY.

  15. If, at 5 minutes past the hour/half hour, the machine is vacant, patrons may use it before their reserved slot.
  16. In these instances, patrons should not write their name in both slots.

GROUP EXERCISE AND SPECIALTY CLASSES POLICIES

  1. Classes are operated on a “first come, first served” basis.
  2. Members must add class access to their membership (fees may apply) to participate in any group exercise or specialty class. Members must then present their Harvard ID or athletic membership card to the front desk to acquire a class pass.
  3. In order for a free guest to participate in a group exercise class, they must take the class with the member who signed them in, and pay a $10 drop-in fee at the front desk.
  4. In order for a paid guest to participate in a group exercise class, they must take the class with the member who signed them in, and pay a $10 drop in fee on top of the $15 guest fee.
  5. Passes will be distributed no earlier than thirty minutes prior to the start of all classes, EXCEPT for the 11:30am and 12:15pm land-based classes. For these classes, passes will be distributed no earlier than fifteen minutes prior.
  6. Once all the passes are distributed, the class is considered closed. The instructor will collect the passes during class.
  7. Passes cannot be reserved, and participants may not pick up passes for others. If a participant decides not to attend a class, they must return the unused pass to the front desk.
  8. Failure to provide a class pass at the beginning of class will result in dismissal from the class.
  9. Participants will not be permitted to enter a class after ten minutes, due to safety concerns and to avoid disruptions.
  10. Participants may not arrive more than five minutes late for Indoor Cycling, ShockWave, Indo Row and any class which is thirty minutes or less. Participants should notify the instructor if leaving early.
  11. Participants must respect the scheduled programming and must not disrupt practice, classes, or training sessions in progress. Repeated or deliberate interruption of programming will result in disciplinary action.

LOCKER ROOM POLICIES

  1. Cell phone use of any kind and image capturing devices are not permitted in any Harvard Recreation facility locker room or bathroom.

  3. All overnight locker service will expire on May 31st. It is the member’s responsibility not to allow their rental to expire. Any expired lockers will have their lock cut and items bagged.
  4. Patrons may not leave items in the tall day lockers overnight. Locks are cut and items bagged every morning.
  5. Patrons may not dye their hair in the locker rooms. The dye stains the floors, walls, and sinks, and necessitates costly clean-up and replacements.
  6. Patrons must bring their used shower towel to the appropriate bins in each facility.
  7. Children over the age of 4 must use the gender appropriate locker room.

CLOSING POLICIES

Doors lock 15 minutes before the building closes. Patrons should plan their workout accordingly to allow time to leave by closing, including any time needed to shower and change. Patrons will not be permitted to shower or change after the building closes. Any patron refusing to vacate the building in a timely manner will be escorted off the premises by the police. Repeatedly forcing staff to close the building late will result in disciplinary action.
